BMX Track
Young people have been building their own BMX tracks in the woods next to Liggard brook for years.

However as you can see from the first photo the height and position of the track was a safety concern so Fylde Borough Council were obliged to flatten the tracks and discourage the kids from rebuilding in this area. We listened to the concerns of both the council and the young people and were able to come up with a plan to suit all.
Our BMX co-ordinator along with council officers and some of the local teenagers visited existing BMX tracks and designed a track a suitable track for all ages. BMX is a fast and exciting sport that can be enjoyed by all age groups. In 2008 it will be included in the Olympic games for the first time and who knows by 2012 Park View BMX track could produce an Olympian!
Great news thanks to a £25,000 grant from SITA Trust, which makes awards through the Landfill Communities Fund, we have been able to install a fantastic BMX track.
This photo shows our BMX co-ordinator Penny Lane starting the work!
SITA Trust provides funding to improve community life around landfill sites owned by the waste management company, SITA UK. We are extremely grateful for this funding and the BMX’ers are thrilled with their new track. Since it’s completion it has proven to be the most popular area of the park.

The track was officially opened in July 2007 by Michael Jack M.P, who very sportingly rode the track.
The BMX’ers have now formed their own club ‘Lytham Gold Coast B.M.X Club’, who meet every Thursday evening in the summer months.
You can find their web site here: Lytham Gold Coast B.M.X Club
