Amphitheatre
We are delighted to announce that work has been completed on time on our wonderful Community Amphitheatre.
We are extremely grateful to the Big Lottery Fund for funding the Amphitheatre via Groundwork’s Community Spaces Fund.
Amphitheatres are open-air venues for entertainment and performance dating back to Roman times and can be used in all sorts of ways.
We have consulted with many local groups and schools and we have had a tremendous response from people wanting to use the venue for all kinds of performances.
The Amphitheatre is a stunning piece of Landscape Architecture, consisting of a 60ft-wide semi-circle featuring a large stage area, three rows of seats, a new pathway and some very exciting landscaping. The Amphitheatre links into the existing materials and shapes of the park.
The seating areas are faced in pebbles, to reflect Lytham’s history and link in with the entrance feature. The shape of the Amphitheatre and associated landscaping also replicates the curves of the BMX track, helping it to blend into the park setting.
Councillor Sue Fazackerley, Fylde Council cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “Park View 4 U deserves enormous credit for this. They spoke to the community and people told them that schools and community groups could do with a space for activities such as plays and storytelling sessions.
“Members then had designs drawn up and raised the money themselves. Fylde Council staff has supported them but Park View 4 U’s contribution has been paramount.
The Amphitheatre will be officially opened in the spring of 2012
Later in the year we will post an events diary for the Amphitheatre.
