Lytham Community Choir

Lytham Sings 2012

As part of our 2012 program, we are launching a Lytham Community Choir, open to absolutely anyone who lives or works in Lytham. It is hoped that the choir will perform at key events in Lytham throughout 2012, culminating in a performing at the Lytham Proms!

The idea came about after Park View 4U’S Community Development Manager Cath Powell had watched the programme with Gareth Malone and the South Oxley Choir. Cath Said, “I was watching it thinking we could easily do something similar in Lytham, then after putting a comment on facebook and getting a positive response I decided to go for it!”

Cath then contacted Peter Taylor from Cuffe and Taylor, who is organising the Lytham Prom Festival who has agreed in principal to allow the choir to perform on the stage before Alfie Boe.

Cath added, “I was so excited when Peter agreed to let us perform at the proms, I can’t thank him enough, it’s amazing. Everyone I meet either wants to be involved or are offering their support, it is something that every age group can take part in, and a lovely way to bring all the community together”

Start date Announced

The first rehearsals will take place at St.Bede’s High School Lytham on Thursday 26th January 6.30-8.30pm

Introducing Lytham’s answer to Gareth Malone!

We are delighted to  announce our musical director as Graham Warrington, who will be assisted by Andrew Barnet, they will lead the choir as they “Sing 2012”.

Cath Powell, Community Development Manager for Park View 4U who is coordinating the Lytham Community Choir explained, “I am delighted that Graham and Andrew are leading the choir they make a great double act which will make rehearsing fun.”

The response to the choir has taken everyone by surprise as Cath explained “We have had over 200 people sign up, it is a real community choir, everyone from the milkman to the Mayoress! We have also had lots of offers of help and support, St Bede’s School is very kindly allowing us to use their hall for rehearsals.”

Graham who is Head of Music at St Bede’s School Lytham is no stranger to musical performances, having been brought up in a musical family, his father Graham snr is a musician who played saxophone, flute and clarinet with the Blackpool Tower, Charles Barlow Orchestra for many years.

Graham’s musical path led him to Colchester where he took a BA hons course specialising in music education, before going on to Canterbury Christ Church College, where he met head of music Derek Boyne who ran a very successful choir which enthused Graham about choral singing.

Graham was musical director at All Saints Church, Anchorsholme for 8yrs, whilst Andrew Barnet (Assistant head, St. Bede’s) who is assisting Graham is the organist at St. Mark’s Church, Layton.

Graham said “I can’t wait to get to know the choir members; we are planning to sing a wide range of musical styles from modern pop, jazz standards to West End show songs”

The first rehearsals will take place at St.Bede’s High School Lytham on Thursday 26th January 6.30-8.30pm
