We are delighted to announce that the Big Lottery have awarded us £10,000 through their Local Food Program.

This money will fund our latest project called “Growing Up” which aims to highlight the links between locally sourced food and healthy lifestyles, as well as building on our successful intergenerational activities and the project is open to all.

The funding will enable us to build a Community Kitchen Garden adjacent to the new café/ community Centre. The kitchen garden will have plenty of growing space with raised beds, polytonal and fully accessible pathways. We are also planting an Edible Avenue with native Fruit Trees from Brogdale’s who house the National Fruit Collection.

Community Centre Development Manager Cath Powell explains “The idea of the new Kitchen Garden and the  “Growing Up” project is that people of all ages can come together to work on this exciting project. Through the gardening club older members of the community can pass on their knowledge to the younger ones.

The food grown will be served in the café, teaching us all how to be more self sufficient and the links between food and exercise and healthier lifestyles.”

We will also be hosting cook and eat programs as well as grow your own courses, where we will be getting expert advice from professionals as well as members of the local community.

Cath Added “This is a really exciting project which anyone no matter what age can get involved in, just giving up a couple of hours a week to work together on a community project can really make a difference to people’s lives”

Please check back here in the New Year for details of the courses and Gardening Club. In the meantime if you would like to get involved please e-mail
